Come on down !

To Melbourne to sail in the 2011 Dragon World Championships being hosted by Royal Brighton Yacht Club in January 2011. On behalf of the Australian International Dragonclass Association I am proud to invite all competitors to come and do battle on the clean, clear waters of Port Phillip, Melbourne for the 2011 International Dragonclass Open World Championship.

An Open Championship

The IDA has granted the 2011 World Championship Open status. This will allow all competitors to plan well ahead confident that their entry will be accepted without prior qualification.

An Easy Championship to Attend

DB Schenkersportsevents will offer to take delivery of your Dragon at specific major European and UK ports and deliver it to Melbourne, Australia’s largest container port. The Royal Brighton Yacht Club team will assist you in then delivering your boat to the Marina. The negotiated cost structure will be most competitive.

Flying to Melbourne from Europe is also easy. Jump on an airliner, enjoy the day and a good night’s sleep and you can be at Melbourne airport, thirty-five minutes drive from the Race Venue.

Great Championship Weather

Our weather is famous for its variability. Typical summer sailing conditions are air temperature 27°C, water temperature 20°C and a 15 knot sea breeze driving waves of one metre. Perfect !

An Ideal Venue

Port Phillip includes 1900 square kilometres of clean, protected water. The race course is one kilometre from the Yacht Club. The courses are clear of marine traffic, tidal influence and “geographic obstacles”.

Royal Brighton Yacht Club, with 135 years of yacht racing experience, enjoys a new floating marina and a totally rebuilt clubhouse overlooking the race course. Supporters can watch the racing from the Club Bar or follow the racing from the spectator fleet.

A World Class Race Management Team

Our on water race management team has conducted two recent Olympic Games Regattas and multiple world championships including the highly successful 2009 World Etchells Class Championships at Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

A Wonderful Championship City

Melbourne is Australia’s sporting capital city. A clean and safe city, it has been voted the world’s most livable. An exciting social program has been developed by our event management professionals to make this a great holiday for both competitors and their families.

Come and join us in Melbourne in January 2011 !

Andrew Merrett

Chairman
2011 World Championship Committee
President AIDA
